Nearly 140 migrants attempting to cross the English Channel from the French coast to reach Great Britain have been rescued.

Sea-news.az reports that the rescue operation carried out by French maritime services began on the morning of August 14. The Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer observation post spotted a migrant boat moving toward Great Britain off the coast of Normandy. Following this, two patrol vessels began monitoring the boat’s movement.

On the evening of August 14, it was determined that around 40 migrants were waiting on the coast of Berck-sur-Mer for a boat to pick them up at sea. Due to rising water levels, these individuals were left stranded and helpless on the shore. Rescue services brought them to a safe area.

The operation continued into the nighttime hours. Later, in another section of the coast, 82 people wearing life jackets were identified waiting to board the same boat. However, due unfavorable weather conditions, they were unable to board. Approximately 20 people who were already in the boat also decided to abandon their attempt to cross the English Channel during the night.
