The United States is preparing to send the aircraft carrier USS George Washington to the Middle East to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier as part of a scheduled rotation.
Sea-news.az reports citing The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), that the Lincoln has been at sea for more than 250 days and has not entered any port for 200 days.
With this metric, the ship has broken a record for the duration of continuous deployment at sea.
It is noted that the Lincoln’s prolonged deployment at sea has already caused concern in Congress. Senator Richard Blumenthal sent a letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Acting Secretary of the Navy Xun Sao demanding information regarding the service conditions aboard the ship.
“Numerous reports have been received regarding shortages of essential goods, water contamination, plumbing problems, deteriorating mental health, safety issues on deck, and disruptions in the mail system. Due to these disruptions, many packages containing essential goods sent to the ship have been lost in transit for months,” the senator stated.
Earlier, it was reported that sailors attempted to jump overboard from the USS Abraham Lincoln due to long-term service in the Middle East.
