Additional appraisal of the field is being carried out in the “Shafag-Asiman” offshore block located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea in order to determine the most optimal option to advance the project.
Sea-news.az reports that to this end, work on planning future offshore operations, including the drilling of a new exploration and appraisal well into the Lower Surakhani formation, is currently ongoing.
To create conditions for drilling and research activities at sea, the exploration period of the “Shafag-Asiman” Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) was officially extended in June 2025. bp retains its status as the offshore operator within the framework of the agreement.

- TPAO (Turkey): 30% (officially joined the PSA in June 2025)
