Tension in strategic waterways

Tension in the global energy market has increased further as a result of attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Against the background of these events, Brent crude immediately rose by 5 percent to $97 a barrel, while Light crude climbed to $89.

According to sea-news.az that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran blew up the control center of an oil tanker attempting to pass through the strait escorted by US warships and seized the vessel. It has not yet been disclosed which country the ship belongs to.

On the other hand, the “Kavomaleas” tanker, belonging to the Greek company “Dynacom” and scheduled to transport 500,000 barrels of oil, was also hit by two projectiles. As a fire broke out in the engine room, the crew abandoned the ship.

These incidents, also confirmed by the European Space Agency, have caused fuel and consumer goods prices to rise in the US and Europe, as well as driving up inflation. Experts state that oil prices will rise even higher if the tension continues.
