July 18 marks the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).

According to sea-news.az that the agency was established in 1998 by the decree of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. In 2021, by a decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the agency was granted the status of a public legal entity. ANAMA’s primary mission is to clear liberated territories of mines and unexploded ordnance.

Following the historic victory in the Patriotic War, the agency’s material and technical base has been strengthened, and female deminers have been integrated into its operations. As a result of these efforts, 287,385 hectares of land have been cleared of mines to date. During operations, a total of 255,200 explosive devices have been found and neutralized, including 42,235 anti-personnel mines and 23,868 anti-tank mines.

Currently, within the framework of the “Great Return” program, ANAMA continues its demining activities in Karabakh uninterruptedly, utilizing modern technologies and specially trained dogs.
