Tehran has called on Yemens “Ansar Allah” movement (Houthis) to be prepared to close the Red Sea in the event of a U.S. attack on Iran’s energy infrastructure.
According to sea-news.az that the Reuters agency has released this information, citing private sources.
The agency noted that the Houthis have already deployed UAV and missiles in the area of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and are awaiting orders from Iran to strike merchant vessels.
Commenting on the potential closure of the Red Sea, Torbjorn Soltvedt, lead analyst for the Middle East at the company Verisk Maplecroft, stated:
“If military operations intensify and impact export infrastructure and shipping in the Red Sea, it will jeopardize the only major alternative route for oil exports from the region.”
