The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) has announced that the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz remains accessible for vessel traffic.

According to sea-news.az that this was stated in a declaration published by the organization on its “X” social media account.

The center also noted that the threat level in the region remains high. The statement emphasized that despite Iran’s announcement on July 12 regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the southern route continues to operate and has been expanded to facilitate two-way vessel traffic.

“Mariners should be prepared for challenges via VHF radio by naval forces and must be aware of the mine threat area within the traditional traffic separation scheme,” the statement noted.

JMIC stated that mariners are advised to maintain communication with NCAGS (Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping). Nevertheless, vessels can navigate the southern route freely without additional coordination.

Previously, representatives of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that no vessels would be allowed to pass until the United States ceased its attempts to interfere in matters concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
