Chinas Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) has achieved a significant milestone in reusable rocket technology. The first stage of the “Long March 10B” rocket has successfully landed on a specialized offshore platform for the first time.
According to sea-news.az citing Seanews.az, that the platform developed for this purpose, while similar to the offshore landing systems used by companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin, features distinct technology. A special support structure and a robotic cable system installed on the deck stabilize and securely hold the descending rocket.
According to experts, recovering reusable rocket boosters significantly reduces the cost of space launches. CALT states that this is the first successful offshore landing of such a system developed outside of the United States, and the “Long March 10B” successfully demonstrated this technology on its very first attempt.
The organization believes that this new technology will accelerate the development of China’s commercial space industry and help reduce the costs of delivering payloads into orbit.
