The “State Program for the Development of Production and Processing of Agricultural, Fishery, and Aquaculture Products in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2026–2030,” approved by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, lays the foundation for a new stage in the development of the fishery and aquaculture sector, alongside other areas of the country. The primary objectives of the program are to increase production, more fully meet domestic demand, expand export potential, and form a modern production model.
According to sea-news.az that concrete targets have been set for the fishery and aquaculture sector within the document. It is intended to increase fish production to 7,700 tons by 2030, raise the country’s self-sufficiency level, and broaden export opportunities. To achieve these goals, comprehensive measures will be implemented, including the improvement of the legislative framework, the formation of state support mechanisms, the application of subsidies and incentives, and the expansion of fish farming activities.
Within the framework of the program, the application of modern technologies in fishery farms, the efficient use of water resources, the strengthening of production and processing chains, the expansion of logistical capabilities, and the implementation of digital solutions have been identified as priority areas. Significant measures are also planned for the successful implementation of the State Program in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Yusif Alizade, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, stated that the State Program has identified several crucial directions, such as improving control and monitoring mechanisms for fish stocks, increasing the production capacity of fish farms, and expanding the release of fish into water basins. He added, “Within the framework of the program, significant measures will also be implemented to provide state support and subsidies to entrepreneurs engaged in fishing. Currently, relevant work is underway regarding the registration of fishery farms in Nakhchivan.”
