A French court has fined the owner of the oil tanker Tagor, which is linked to Russias “shadow fleet,” €1 million after finding the owner guilty of violating flag registration regulations and failing to comply with law enforcement orders.
According to sea-news.az the Brest prosecutor’s office stated that the administrative restrictions on the tanker, which was intercepted by the French Navy in the Atlantic Ocean at the end of May, will be lifted, and the vessel will be permitted to leave French territorial waters.
The owner of the ship, which is registered in the Marshall Islands, pleaded guilty and has already paid the fine. The company has also committed to obtaining a valid new flag registration for the vessel in the near future.
According to French media, the Tagor has previously sailed under the flags of Madagascar, the Marshall Islands, and Panama. Subject to sanctions by the United States and the European Union, the tanker is considered part of the “shadow fleet” used by Western-sanctioned entities to continue Russia’s oil exports.
This is the fourth such tanker to be detained by France since September 2025. Another tanker, named Deliver, which was detained off the coast of Sicily on June 23, remains near the oil terminal of the Port of Marseille-Fos.
