Iran intends to reach a formal agreement with Oman regarding the joint management of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to sea-news.az citing the ISNA agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, this was stated by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi. Emphasizing that the issue of the Strait of Hormuz is of strategic and vital importance for Tehran, the Deputy Minister stated that the management of the strait falls directly under the responsibility of the coastal states.

K. Gharibabadi also noted: “Iran and Oman are in full agreement on the issue of collecting special fees (charges) for services provided to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. No third country, including France, will be allowed to interfere in the process of clearing mines from the Strait of Hormuz.”

It should be recalled that some time ago, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi expressed solidarity with Iran regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz. Following talks with the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that Paris was prepared to provide military support for mine-clearing operations in the strait.
