A New Stage for Ecological Balance

China is accelerating the restoration of marine ecosystems in various regions of the country. These measures are aimed at increasing marine biodiversity and reshaping the habitats of underwater species.

According to sea-news.az citing the Xinhua news agency, seagrass beds are being restored on the Changdao Islands in Shandong Province. Experts state that these ecosystems, which were once severely damaged by unplanned aquaculture and coastal farming activities, are now being rebuilt using scientific methods. Artificial seed banks are being created, and seagrasses are cultivated in special biological covers and transplanted to the seabed.

Observations show that the expansion of seagrass and seaweed fields has created favorable conditions for the reproduction of fish and shrimp. As a result, spotted seals from the Pacific Ocean return to Changdao waters every spring.

In the waters near Wuzhizhou Island, located in Sanya, Hainan Province, in the south of the country, work continues on the restoration of coral reefs and the creation of artificial reefs. Since 2010, more than 80,000 cubic meters of artificial reefs have been created there, over 66,000 corals have been transplanted, and more than 61,000 square meters of seabed have been restored. Thanks to new cultivation technologies, the survival rate of the corals has been increased from 40 percent to 70 percent.

Experts note that the creation of artificial reefs forms a new habitat for fish, mollusks, and corals, helping to gradually restore the marine ecosystem and the food chain.
