Mass Exodus of Vessels from the Persian Gulf Has Begun!

Within the framework of a special program of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the evacuation of vessels trapped in the Strait of Hormuz due to the military conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has been launched.

According to sea-news.az an official representative of the organization released information regarding this.

According to the IMO’s statement, this crucial humanitarian and logistical initiative, the preparation and safety coordination of which took several months, will enable hundreds of commercial vessels stranded inside the Persian Gulf—with approximately 11,000 seafarers onboard—to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement delivered on Wednesday, the organization’s representative emphasized, “Vessels have already begun to transit through the designated safe routes.” Operational data from the LSEG marine tracking system also confirms this; indeed, at least three large-scale cargo vessels have successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz over the last 12 hours.

According to the information, following the agreement reached between the US and Iran on a ceasefire and de-escalation, two temporary maritime corridors have been designated for the vessels to exit the blockade:

  • Northern route: A transit line passing through Iranian waters;
  • Southern route: A trajectory passing through waters controlled by Omani and US naval forces.

Nevertheless, the international coalition and shipping authorities warn that the movement of vessels may be temporarily suspended at any moment depending on the situation, with the aim of fully ensuring maritime security in the region, maintaining order, or immediately preventing any possible conflict situations with naval forces.
