Iran has agreed to establish a special communication channel regarding the movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in order to prevent conflict and potential incidents.
According to sea-news.az this was announced by the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
According to him, taking into account the probability of various problems arising in the strait, an agreement has been reached on the creation of a coordination center and a communication line. Through this mechanism, it is intended to resolve arising issues more promptly, within 30 days whenever possible.
Ghalibaf stated that the communication line to be established does not aim to obtain permits for the passage of vessels through the strait. According to him, the issuance of passage permits remains a separate procedure. The new mechanism will solely serve to eliminate problems, incidents, or misunderstandings arising in connection with vessels.
The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament also emphasized that the management of the Strait of Hormuz will no longer be carried out in the previous manner.
“The norms of international law will be respected. Along with this, navigation in the Strait of Hormuz will be regulated within the framework of international law and the rules determined by Iran,” he noted.
