Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, at least 25 vessels have already passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to sea-news.az the “Washington Post” newspaper reported on this, citing the analytics company “Kpler”.
“On Thursday, 25 vessels crossed the Strait of Hormuz. Although this is only a fraction of the vessels stranded in the region, it represents the largest number of daily crossings in more than two weeks and one of the highest daily figures since the outbreak of the conflict,” the publication wrote.
Citing data from the “TankerTrackers” company, the newspaper noted that approximately 18 million barrels of oil have left Iranian ports and anchorages over the past five days.
“In total, about 550 more large commercial vessels, including 160 tankers, are awaiting their passage through the strait,” the newspaper wrote, referencing estimates from the “Lloyd’s List” publication.
On the night of June 18, Iran and the US signed a memorandum providing for the end of the military conflict that began on February 28. The memorandum also specified the timeframes within which the US will lift the naval blockade and Iran will restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The parties are to conduct negotiations within 60 days.
