At least 15 migrant bodies have been discovered on the coast of Al-Khums, a city located east of Libyas capital, Tripoli.
According to sea-news.az Libyas Ministry of Health stated that the bodies belong to migrants who drowned in open waters.
In recent years, Libya has become one of the main transit points for irregular migration routes from Africa to Europe. Thousands of people attempt to cross the Mediterranean Sea each year in search of better living conditions and greater security. However, this route is considered one of the world’s most dangerous migration corridors and results in numerous fatalities annually.
The relevant authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
