The container vessel “Golden Star 1,” sailing under the Tanzanian flag, sank approximately 6 kilometers off Batam Island, Indonesia, at around 22:30 local time on June 5.
According to sea-news.az the ship began to sink after taking on water and eventually went completely underwater. All nine crew members on board were safely rescued by the Indonesian Coast Guard.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) issued a navigational warning for vessels transiting the area. Ships have been advised to exercise caution when navigating the region and to report any drifting containers detected at sea.
