The Belgian subsea repair specialist company Hydrex has carried out classification-approved repair work on the hull of a supply vessel in the Port of Rotterdam.
According to the information provided, damage detected in a ballast tank located on the starboard side was repaired while the vessel remained anchored in port. As a result, there was no need to send the ship to dry dock, avoiding additional downtime and operational delays.
During the operation, a cofferdam—a temporary watertight enclosure—was installed on the external section of the hull to isolate the damaged area. Specialists then inspected the internal structure and, under the supervision of the classification society, completed welding repairs on a 200 mm steel plate.
Representatives of Hydrex stated that such rapid underwater repair operations allow shipowners to reduce costs and keep vessels in continuous commercial operation without interruption.
