The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed a laboratory-verified case of hantavirus infection aboard a vessel, according to AFP.

The infection was detected on a ship traveling across the Atlantic Ocean from Argentina to Cape Verde. A total of six people were reported infected, three of whom have died.

One patient is currently receiving intensive care treatment in a hospital in South Africa. The patient is a 69-year-old British national.

Hantavirus is a severe infectious disease transmitted to humans primarily through rodents. Health experts note that the risk of transmission can increase in confined environments such as ships, where close quarters and limited ventilation may facilitate the spread of infection.
