The naming ceremony of the world’s largest sailing ship, Orient Express Corinthian, has been held in Saint-Nazaire, France, with the vessel officially delivered to its owner.
Measuring 220 meters in length and with a deadweight of 15,000 tons, the ship is equipped with the innovative “SolidSail” technology developed to support maritime decarbonization. The cruise vessel features three sails, each covering 1,500 square meters. The fully automated system can rotate 360 degrees.
During trials, the ship achieved a speed of 12 knots powered solely by wind, setting a record in its class.
Operating under the legendary brand of the Accor group, the vessel is also fitted with a hybrid propulsion system powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
An AI-based monitoring system installed on board can detect marine mammals, reducing the risk of collisions. Meanwhile, dynamic positioning technology allows the ship to maintain its position without anchoring, helping to protect the seabed.
Designed to accommodate 110 passengers and an equal number of crew, the luxury vessel includes 54 suites, restaurants, a theater, and a recording studio.
The ship embarked on its maiden voyage on May 2, while its sister vessel, Orient Express Olympian, is scheduled for delivery in 2027.
