The Armed Forces of Ukraine reportedly targeted the sanctioned tanker “MARQUISE” near the port of Tuapse in Russia’s Krasnodar region.

This was announced by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.

According to the statement, a Ukrainian naval unit carried out the attack this morning using two maritime unmanned surface vessels against the sanctioned ship. The tanker sails under the flag of Cameroon and has a deadweight of over 37,000 tons.

At the time of the attack, the vessel was reportedly drifting about 210 km southeast of Tuapse without an AIS (Automatic Identification System) signal. It is believed that the tanker was waiting to receive cargo from another vessel at sea.

The General Staff stated that the strike hit the stern of the ship. The “MARQUISE” is under sanctions by Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, New Zealand, and Canada, and has been used in the illegal transport of petroleum products for Russia.
