According to the latest youth ranking list released by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), two young Azerbaijani athletes are now among the “Top-100” badminton players. Young badminton player Ülvi Hüseynov, who has made a mark with successful performances in international tournaments, has climbed to 63rd place in the rankings. Most recently, he secured a spot among the medalists at international tournaments held in the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey, increasing his ranking points to 4,050.

It should be noted that since 2023, Ülvi Hüseynov has been training at the Malaysia Badminton Academy under a cooperation memorandum signed between the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation and the Malaysia Badminton Federation. In addition to his studies, he regularly participates in training camps with members of Malaysia’s national teams across different age categories, further enhancing his professional skills.

Another young badminton player, Həcər Nuriyeva, has also made significant progress, competing in international tournaments in Tajikistan, Spain, Turkey, Zambia, and Botswana in 2023 and 2024. She has advanced 21 positions in the rankings, now sitting at 47th place. Most recently, in 2025, she won a gold medal in the doubles category at an international tournament in the Islamic Republic of Iran, where she partnered with Leyla Camalzade, raising her ranking points to 5,800.

It is worth noting that having local athletes ranked among the world’s “Top-100” badminton players is one of the key objectives of the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation’s 2025-2028 strategic plan.
