ASCO aligns operations with sustainable dev’t principles in ecological aspects

The Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) conducts its activities in line with sustainable development principles when it comes to ecological aspects, Alakbar Azizli, ASCO’s Director of Sustainability and Emissions Management, told Report.

Azizli emphasized that one of ASCO’s primary goals is to minimize the environmental impact across all aspects of its operations.

“At ASCO, we take planned and continuous measures to reduce potential harmful effects on the environment to zero, including keeping waste and emissions at minimal levels and using water and energy resources efficiently,” he said.

ASCO organizes its activities in this area in accordance with the requirements of national legislation, the International Maritime Organization, and existing international conventions in the field of shipping, the director added.

According to him, ASCO’s sustainable development principles in the ecological aspect include environmental protection, accident prevention, efficient management of waste and emissions, and minimizing negative anthropogenic impact on ecosystems.

“Efficient use of clean, drinking water resources, organizing activities in accordance with the requirements of international standards, conservation of biodiversity, efficient use of energy resources, and the application of more favorable, advanced techniques and technologies for environmental protection through the support of innovations are also among these principles,” Azizli noted.
