For the first time in the region, the Port of Baku was awarded the “EcoPorts” certificate by the Port Environmental Review System (PERS) of the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO) in 2019. The port successfully passes through the re-certification stages.

The Port Environmental Review System (PERS) is an environmental management standard for the European port sector that raises environmental awareness and helps ports achieve sustainable development goals. This standard promotes the application of advanced technologies, especially in aspects of energy use, waste management, air quality, digitization and automation. It should be noted that only 33 ports have been awarded this status in Europe, including the ports of Port of Rotterdam, Port de Barcelona and Port of London Authority. The strategy of reducing carbon emissions to zero, the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), renewable energy projects, are among the main elements of our activity in the context of the Green Port. The Port of Baku shared the “Green Port” experience with the ports of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
