The State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy started measurement of wind potential in a specified area at the Caspian Sea, Report informs, citing the agency.
The work on starting measurements in the specified areas in accordance with the action direction “Researching the wind energy potential at the sea and implementing preparatory measures for using the potential” provided for in the “2022-2026 socio-economic development strategy” is about to be completed.
Finnish Vaisala company has brought 2 LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) units to the country and installed them in the specified area for measurement and observation. The device is used to determine wind speed and direction at required points up to a distance of 10 km using laser beams.
The LiDAR device will measure the wind speed at heights of 75 m, 150 m and 225 m by creating a virtual measuring-observation pole at different points.
The company conducted theoretical and practical training on studying LiDAR devices. In the training, the working principle of the LiDAR device, temporary installation in the area, configuration, data analysis with real-time data, etc. issues have been covered.
