The first batch of fresh tomatoes from Turkmenistan has arrived in Russia directly by sea via the North-South Transport Corridor to the Olya checkpoint in Astrakhan. This was reported by official media outlets in Astrakhan on Thursday.

This ferry voyage from the port of Turkmenbashi, carrying 40 trucks loaded with fresh tomatoes, marks a significant milestone in the development of maritime transportation between the two countries.

Special container bodies maintaining the necessary temperature regime were used to ensure the safety of perishable goods.

According to the report, the ferry returned to Turkmenistan carrying 800 tons of Belarusian cheese, Russian dairy products, and other goods.

The Olia Sea Port Customs processed over 80 transit declarations, with its staff ensuring prompt verification of documents and seals, releasing goods on average within 20 minutes.

In late January of the previous year, the Joint Stock Company “Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan” and the Joint Stock Company “Special Economic Zone “Lotus”” (Russian Federation) signed a Memorandum on the implementation of an investment project to establish a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the port special economic zone of the Astrakhan region.
