Taking into consideration that President Ilham Aliyev declared 2024 the “Year of Solidarity for the Green World” and also that 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in the capital this year, works are being carried out to improve the environmental state of the Baku Bay. The Caspian Sea Integrated Environmental Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources conducted environmental monitoring in the bay area on “Orion 17” vessel of the Caspian Sea Oil Fleet of the “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” CJSC (ASCO).
During the monitoring, samples of bottom sediments were taken from certain depths of the sea for research in the waters of Baku Bay. The study area covered the routes of passenger cruise ships and the area from the “Baku Marriott” hotel to the State Flag Square.
Based on the results of the samples taken, appropriate measures will be taken to improve the environmental condition of the bay.
It should be noted that in addition to representatives of the Office of Integrated Environmental Monitoring of the Caspian Sea, employees of the Boulevard and ASCO Quality, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Department took an active part in the work.
