The fifth bulk carrier ran aground in Türkiye due to several days of bad weather, the Natural Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) said, Report informs via Turkish media.
The bulk carrier FR Pearl / Esenyalı ran aground due to a raging storm near the port of Hopa close to the Georgian border.
This is the second such emergency this morning.
“At about 10.00 local time (GMT +3), a message was received about the dry cargo ship Esenyalı running aground near Hopa in Artvin province. An operation to rescue the ship’s crew is underway,” AFAD said in a press release.
According to the Marinetraffic portal, the ship, sailing under the Palau flag, left the Georgian port of Poti.
Earlier today it was reported that the Cambodian-flagged bulk carrier Vamos ran aground in a storm off Kastamonu province on the Black Sea coast of Türkiye. Later, the Ministry of Transport announced that the crew of 11 sailors had been rescued.
