Pakistan to start receiving LNG from Azerbaijan at discounted price in July

Azerbaijan will start supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan at discounted prices in July, according to a statement released by the office of the Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday, Report informs.

“The start of LNG imports from Azerbaijan was the second major achievement of Pakistan in meeting energy needs after receiving the first batch of oil from Russia this month,” the office said. LNG supplies will be carried out on the basis of an agreement between the State Oil Company of Pakistan (PSO) and the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

The document was made public during the two-day official visit of the Pakistani prime minister to Baku that ended on June 15. Sharif and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reached an agreement on cooperation in energy, trade, investment, civil aviation and other areas. At a joint press conference, the leaders of the two countries announced the start of direct flights of Azerbaijan Airlines to Islamabad and the decision to increase the number of joint military exercises.
