Azerbaijan offers Kazakhstan to transport oil via the Baku-Supsa pipeline, Serik Zhumangarin, Deputy Prime Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan said.
“Baku offers other routes (besides the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline), for example Baku-Supsa. We are currently calculating the technical characteristics of the pipeline,” Zhumangarin told reporters on the sidelines of the government on Tuesday.
He recalled that an agreement was reached between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan on the transportation of 1.5 million tons of oil in 2023 via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.
The Baku-Supsa pipeline is designed to transport Caspian oil from the Sangachal terminal near Baku on the Caspian Sea to the Georgian port of Supsa, located on the Black Sea coast. The pipeline, with a capacity of 5 million tons per year, was put into operation in April 1999. However, since March 15, 2022, due to military operations in the Black Sea, Western companies have refused to load tankers in the Black Sea because of high risks. The fact is that an anti-ship mine was discovered near the Georgian port of Batumi.
