Uzbek official: Port of Baku plays key role in regional cooperation with Azerbaijan

“Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are important locomotives for regional cooperation, and the Port of Baku is playing a key role in this trans-regional logistic connectivity,” said Mr Akramjon Nematov, Deputy Head of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, during his visit to the Port of Baku, Report informs.

Today, the delegation of Uzbekistan, under the leadership of Mr Akramjon Nematov, Deputy Head of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies of Uzbekistan, paid a business visit to the Port of Baku in Alat. The representatives of the Institute and the Uzbek Embassy in Azerbaijan had a meeting with Mr Anar Ibrahimov, the Head of the Marketing and Sales Department, and other officials of the port. The guests got acquainted with the recent developments in the port, which are aimed to support regional trade facilitation, as well as the improvement of transit and multimodal transports in the existing trade corridors.

The participants of the visit also discussed the roles of the dry ports of Uzbekistan and the Port of Baku in the Trans-Caspian international transport route and the prosperous activities to be carried out to ensure uninterrupted cargo flows from Central Asia to Europe.

It was also noted at the meeting that the partnership between the ports and logistic networks of both countries will tremendously contribute to creating new transport and logistics routes in the region, which will open up new opportunities for further growth of digitalized and fast cargo transportation.
