On May 10, ADY Container, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), and Rail Cargo Group (RCG), a subsidiary of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), signed a memorandum of cooperation in Vienna.

The parties intend to organize multimodal transportation from Europe to Central Asia and China, including by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, as well as using the sea shoulder between the Romanian port of Constanta and the Georgian harbor of Poti.

As part of the signing of the memorandum, the parties discussed joint efforts to more effectively use the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route for the development of the China-Europe and Central Asia railway communication. The parties stated that within the framework of the memorandum of cooperation, they will make every effort to ensure uninterrupted and efficient transportation of the line, especially the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway and the Black Sea section.

ADY delegates also met with representatives of Rail Cargo Group, METRANS and Bahnoperator, which are active participants in the Middle Corridor. These companies operate in Central and Southern Europe. As a result, they could help create a new hub in the region to maintain cargo volumes on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route,” said an ADY Container representative.

The partners aim to develop and increase eastbound traffic from Central and Southern Europe. This will happen both exclusively by rail (the BTK line through Turkey) and using the Black Sea section.

In this context, ADY Container LLC, together with the Georgian company GR Logistics & Terminals and KTZ Express, with the support of ASCO (Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company), launches container transportation of goods by feeder ships between the ports of Poti and Constanta. The vessel will run between the specified ports three times a month with an interval of ten days. On each voyage, the ship will carry two block trains,” ADY Container stressed.

Considering the fact that the volume of traffic along the Middle Corridor (the so-called Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) has recently increased dramatically, this is a very positive development. Stakeholders in the region are slowly realizing that good coordination and implementation of a joint plan across the various parts of the corridor is critical to maintaining a high quality of service. The participation of European companies and their cooperation with countries along the corridor is also vital, as a European perspective, know-how and market knowledge can be very constructive.

PRO  -LOG  already delivers China-Europe using the Middle Corridor and offers European companies to use the delivery via the Trans-Caspian route.
