LUKoil decided to build offshore wind turbines around the Absheron peninsula

LUKoil-Ecoenergo LLC (Rostov-on-Don, LUKoil structure) held a tender for the development of a preliminary feasibility study for the construction of an offshore wind farm (WPP) in the Absheron Peninsula region.

According to the tender documents, at least 5 sites for the construction of a wind farm with a capacity of 200 MW along the coast of the Absheron Peninsula in the Caspian Sea should be identified, the location of which is optimized according to the main parameters: high wind potential, minimum construction costs and power distribution schemes, no restrictions on sides of the legislation of Azerbaijan.

A preliminary feasibility study, the cost of which is estimated at 11.6 million rubles, should be prepared by the end of April 2022. Applications from applicants were accepted until December 8, the results are planned to be summed up on December 15.

It should be noted that this year LUKoil has stepped up its activities in energy projects in Azerbaijan. In February of this year, she expressed a desire to become an operator in the Azerbaijani-Turkmen oil offshore project Dostlug, in September she acquired half of the share in an exploration project around the Absheron Peninsula from the British company BP, and in October announced that an agreement had been reached to increase her share in a large gas project in Azerbaijan – Shah Deniz at the expense of the Malaysian company Petronas. In addition, the company is present in the wholesale and retail market of petroleum products in the country. LUKoil also supplies Azerbaijan with significant volumes of high-octane AI-95 gasoline.
