Turkmen President, Lukoil CEO Mull Development of Caspian Hydrocarbon Resources

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vagit Alekperov, the head of Russian oil and gas company Lukoil, discussed the development of hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian region during a meeting in Ashgabat on Tuesday.

The sides considered topical areas of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Lukoil, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

The Turkmen Leader and the head of Lukoil thoroughly discussed the development of hydrocarbon resources in the Caspian region, where the key factor is the establishment of coordinated international cooperation based on legal norms and respect for each other’s interests, according to the report.

Informing President Berdimuhamedov about Lukoil’s activities in Turkmenistan, including the progress of projects in the Caspian Sea, Alekperov reiterated his companies interest in further cooperation.

Expressing gratitude to the Head of State for the trust, the head of the energy company confirmed the interest of the Russian partners to take an active part in the large-scale industry programs under implementation in Turkmenistan.

During the talks, the Turkmen Leader stated Turkmenistan attaches importance to the digitalization of the oil and gas sector, the introduction of innovative environmentally friendly technologies and the best achievements of scientific and technological progress into the industry. The Head of State added that the best practices of leading foreign, including Russian companies, can be implemented in Turkmenistan.

At the end of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the CEO of Lukoil Vagit Alekperov expressed confidence in the successful continuation of bilateral cooperation on a mutually beneficial long-term basis.

In a meeting with Vagit Alekperov in Ashgabat on February 18, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed Turkmen side’s support for the company’s intent to participate in the development of the Dostluk field, as well as its readiness to consider specific investment proposals for the implementation of the project.
