Position Title: Subsea Production Controls Engineer

  • Responsible for managing all technical queries from the various teams and commissioning phase in country
  • Support the commissioning of the Subsea Production Control and High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems (HIPPS) activities for handover to Operations in accordance with the Safety Instrumented Systems Installation, Commissioning and Validation procedure, the Controls Commissioning Specification and the SIS Safety Lifecycle Plan.
  • Activities including the pre-Execute commissioning preparation phase with the  Engineering Contractors offices during the offshore construction/commissioning phase & Start-up
  • Liaise with the project Certification Engineers to ensure GPO deliveries data verification into the Completions database
  • Ensure correct technical integrity is achieved and maintained for all subsea control systems prior to handover to Operations
  • Provide technical input and approval for Controls Commissioning Test Procedures
  • Provide technical input to site queries and review of all GSS hardware and/or software changes.
  • Support coordination and management of subsea controls equipment Vendor aftermarket support personnel for all subsea controls commissioning related operations.
  • Liaise with in-country GSS services team to ensure appropriate personnel resourcing to resolve issues.
  • Support delivery of Subsea Controls Commissioning through the System Handover Management Process
  • Support the Start-up Team in Management of the SUEM requirements ready for the wells to be brought online
  • Support the Platform Production Team with Front line technical support for resolution of issues in the Subsea Production Control System
  • Support the Commissioning and Operations team with intervention and repair scope for the Subsea Production System
  • Support the MPDS team with proposed changes to the system and management of the change with Emerson, ensuring scope definition and execution
  • Act as MOC coordinator for changes to the Subsea Production System
  • Front line technical support for resolution of issues with delivered Subsea Production System equipment as assigned by the SD2 LT. Competent in communicating in English language.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Good inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Deep knowledge of ICSS, subsea production system and platform-based equipment and      instrumentation.
  • Ability to produce written technical reports and commissioning test procedures.
  • Sound attention to detail during design reviews/ technical documentation reviews.
  • Ability to supervise Vendor support technicians and liaise with engineering and commissioning contractor.
  • Ability to interpret and understand P&IDs, UFOs, PFDs, GA’s, electrical/fibre optic and hydraulic schematics, and other engineering drawings.
  • Experience and Knowledge of Start-up requirements and processes associated with Subsea Production System
  • Experience with using Emerson Delta-V software
  • Experienced with Operations processes and requirements
  • Ability to fault find and provide mitigation for issues
  • Experienced with Choke change-out processes and procedures on Subsea Trees
  • Experienced with using TFMC SMART Tool application software
  • Possessing an in-depth knowledge of subsea electro/hydraulic multiplexed subsea control design, hardware, software, function and overall subsea system architecture.
  • Track record of relevant design and commissioning experience on subsea electro/hydraulic multiplexed subsea production control systems on international onshore or offshore facilities. Experience of SD2 controls system vendors a distinct advantage.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the Commissioning process including:-
    • Involvement with Engineering Contractor and Subsea/Topsides Equipment Vendors in Execute phase. Specifically TechnipFMC, Nexans and Oceaneering for subsea scope.
    • Instrument data verification and understanding of Mechanical Completion and System Handover processes and database requirements
    • Experience of ICSS & and Controls Package FATs
    • Static and Dynamic Commissioning Test Procedure compilation
    • Understanding of Safety Instrumented Functions and IEC 61511
    • Fully conversant with ISO 13628-5, ISO 13628-6 and associated test requirements
    • ICSS Emerson Delta V, PCS, and SCU
    • Topside PSD, ESD, SPCU, SDPU, HPU, HOU systems
    • Subsea Power and Communication Routers (SPCR)
    • Subsea Control/ Electronic Modules (SCM/SEM).
    • Knowledge of BP Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs)
    • Knowledge of SD2 SPCS architecture a significant advantage
    • Subsea Production Manifold Assemblies and associated controls and connection equipment – jumper mounted controls and flying leads including extended electrical flying leads with repeaters and also Weatherford Red Eye Meters
    • Ultramon corrosion monitoring systems
  • Control of Work processes during execution
  • Shall have a track record of managing multi-national personnel within a major project  environment
  • Demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and excellent HSE behaviors at all times, and ensure that safety expectations are communicated and maintained.
  • Attend all mandatory training as specified in HSSE, and Permit To Work training schedule, and to act as a Permit To Work Area Authority
  • Ensure all team members are fully aware and understand all the projects safe working practices and adhere to them to maintain a SAFE working environment.
  • Act as an Area Authority within BP’s Permit To Work Procedures.
  • Active role with the ICSS/MCS engineering, planning, strategy for commissioning and operations
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Testing of equipment/software
  • Interface with the Engineering Purchase Order Management Team for all equipment/ packages to assist within the installation/commissioning.
  • Witnessing and acceptance of Site Acceptance Tests
  • Responsible for the validation and verification of the SIS requirements as detailed within the safety system lifecycle plan and the SIS Commissioning & Validation procedure
  • Comply with IEC61511 mandatory SIS Functional Safety Assessments
  • Comply with BPs competency guidelines for IEC 61511
  • Develop an intimate understanding of the complex operational aspects of the fibre optic cables   and   connections         for   each   production                        umbilical   svstem                and the FOC Telecommunications data transmission and communications network between the SDB-QU offshore platform, other offshore production facilities and Sangachal Terminal
  • Oversee and manage ICSS/SCU subsea control software installation and upgrades as required
  • Provide technical support and monitoring where necessary during manufacturing, fabrication, assembly, testing and installation of subsea controls equipment and instrumentation to ensure delivery is in-line with Commissioning goals and objectives
  • Advise and check the operational match of the control system(s) to well, flowline and field operability and flow assurance, integrating all operational modes with interlocks, pre­ requisites, permissive and alarms as displayed on the control system screens for the executive, monitoring and advisory functions
  • Assist with the capture and transfer of lessons learnt and best practices from other subsea projects and industry relevant to the subsea controls commissioning scope
  • Responsible for reviewing the content of commissioning test procedures for Subsea Systems, Production Trees, Manifolds and High Integrity Pressure Protection Systems. Ensuring that the integrity of the systems is maintained, and all safe working practices are adhered to within the procedures
  • Responding to engineering site queries where clarification of design is required and liaise with engineering contractor where a response to STQ’s is required.
  • Ensure that all GSS equipment commissioning activities are completed in a safe manner.
  • Ensuring that all GSS equipment commissioning procedures and paperwork is completed to  enable a smooth hand over of systems from Commissioning to Operations.
  • Be fully conversant and control ICSS software changes in accordance with project software change control procedure
  • Attend Commissioning meetings on behalf of MPO and Start-up Team
  • Liaise with GSS Services to coordinate Vendor Call-Offs in accordance with the construction and commissioning schedule ensuring vendors are mobilised when required.
