A ceremony was held to present the commemorative medals of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the “160th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (1858-2018)” to employees of the State Maritime Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Gudrat Gurbanov, the director of the State Maritime Agency, who made a keynote speech at the event noted that 2018 has been declared the “Year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic” by the decree of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He further added celebration of the 160th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) in 2018 is particularly remarkable as several important events were held to mark the anniversary Caspian Shipping Company in the same year with 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
Gudrat Gurbanov also stressed that the decree signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the 160th anniversary of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company in order to grant honorary title “Honored Engineer” to sea transport workers and award them with the Order of Labor, the Tereggi (Progress) Medal and the medals “For services in Shipping” are the clear indicator of care and attention to sailors.
Rauf Veliyev, Chairman of the CJSC Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) noted that both the national leader Heydar Aliyev and the country president Mr. Ilham Aliyev provided consistent care and attention to the development of the shipping sector. The purchase of modern vessels to involve in the cargo transportation and oil and gas projects, the successful construction of vessels, the commissioning of new vessels in foreign waters, the improvement of the social welfare of seafarers, the training of professional personnel are the good examples.
Along with this, Rauf Veliyev also stressed the establishment of two new medals by the Milli Majlis and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the eve of the 160th anniversary of the Shipping Company – the medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan “For services in shipping” and the medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “160th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (1858- 2018)”, which he described as the strong attention paid by the state to the development of maritime transport in the country.
Describing the activities of the Shipping Company over the past five years, Rauf Veliyev also reported on the achievement of the Company as the result of dedicated works during this period. The Chairman also expressed his confidence that the sailors would continue to work diligently in order to accomplish the given tasks.
Later, seamen were awarded commemorative medals by the order of ASCO Chairman Rauf Veliyev, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the shipping company.
It is worth emphasizing that a number of specialists of the maritime transport were awarded the title and medal of “Honorary worker of the Fleet” by the order of Gudrat Gurbanov, director of the State Maritime Agency, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company.
