Trend:It is planned to transport at least three million tons of cargo via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TCITR) in 2018, said President of Kazakhstan Railways JSC and Chairman of the TCITR Association Kanat Alpysbayev at a general meeting in Baku Nov. 15.

Alpysbayev noted that according to the results of the current year, these volumes are expected to total at least 1.3 million tons of cargo.

“The launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway is a significant event. Now we need to intensify work on loading the route, attracting cargo, increasing the corridor’s capacity, and improving the infrastructure. The volumes of transportation via the TCITR were set at 725,000 tons for 2017, however, according to the results of 10 months, we have already exceeded the plan by 80 percent and transported more than one million tons of cargo,” said the head of Kazakhstan Railways.

“We expect that the volumes will total at least 1.3 million tons of cargo by the end of the year, and this figure is planned to be at least three million tons in 2018,” added Alpysbayev.
