The ferry vessel “Professor Gul” “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” CJSC was supplied for repair at the “Zigh” Ship Repair yard. All the mechanisms, the main and auxiliary engine, as well as pumps, separators, refrigerators, and compressors of vessel were dismantled and delivered to the repair sites. Repair works are also carried out in the pipeline system and on the hull of the ship. It is planned to install two additional storage tanks and gas analyzers with a volume of 13.5 mᶾ in order to collect liquid cargo in case of leakage during transportation.
The length of the ferry “Professor Gul” is 154.5, width – 18.3 meters, maximum speed – 15 knots. The vessel’s capacity is 28 wagons at each shipment.
It should be noted that “Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company” CJSC is the only ferry operator in the Caspian. The fleet of the Shipping Company includes 13 ferry boats, 2 Ro-Ro vessels. 7 out of 13 existing ferryboats in the fleet contain 28 wagons, and 6 ferries – 52-54 wagons.
Currently, these ferries are involved in cargo transportation through the TransCaspian International Transport Route. Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company pays special attention to increasing the number of ferries in its fleet in order to provide competitive services. In this regard Shipping Company ordered the Baku Shipyard the construction of two unique Ro-Pax ferries, so that the transportation of increasing volumes of cargoes in the East-West and the opposite direction will be smoothly realized. The increase in the number of ferries is of great importance also in terms of turning Azerbaijan into a transport and logistics center of the region and strengthening the country’s transit potential.
