The consortium constructing the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will soon resume the work to remove the olive trees on TAP’s route in Italy.

“Following today’s positive decision of Italian Lazio Regional Administrative Court, TAP continues to collaborate with all the authorities involved in the process to resume its activities on the ground as soon as possible, in order to remain on schedule,” Lisa Givert, head of communications at TAP AG, told Trend Apr. 20.

Her comments come after the Italian court today revoked the order that earlier stopped the work to remove olive trees from the pipeline’s route.

“Once works can safely resume, the remaining olive trees could be removed and replanted in a matter of days,” added Givert.

She said TAP has the legal rights to carry out all works to remove and replant the olive trees, in line with the approvals received by Italian authorities.

TAP is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is one of the priority energy projects for the European Union.

The project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz Stage 2 to the EU countries.

The pipeline will connect to the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) on the Turkish-Greek border, run through Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Italy’s south.

TAP will be 878 kilometers in length (Greece 550 kilometers, Albania 215 kilometers, Adriatic Sea 105 kilometers, and Italy 8 kilometers). Its highest point will be 1,800 meters in Albania’s mountains, with lowest point at 820 meters beneath the sea.
