At least 25 seafarers have been killed in the Strait of Hormuz since February 28 as a result of the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.

Sea-news.az reports citing the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The report indicates that attacks targeting commercial shipping in the region reached 130 during this period, leaving thousands of mariners stranded across the Persian Gulf. The latest fatal incident was recorded on November 5 aboard the tanker Velos Sapphire.

IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez stated that seafarers continue to suffer loss of life, injuries, and deprivation of essential provisions, water, and medical care due to the conflict.

The Council of the organization urged member states to refrain from illegal actions that jeopardize the safety of crew members and international maritime transport. The IMO also announced that it will formulate additional measures to mitigate loss of life and alleviate the humanitarian fallout of the crisis.
