The UK Royal Navy is exploring ways to accelerate the construction of new warships amid growing concerns over the technical readiness of its existing fleet.

Sea-news.az reports citing The Times that the publication provided this information based on sources.

It was noted that defense contractor Babcock may expand its workforce at its Scottish shipyard or institute a two-shift operational schedule at the facility. These measures aim to expedite the construction of five Type 31 frigates.

According to the newspaper, boosting production speed will require additional funding. Nevertheless, an industry source estimated that the first frigate could be delivered as early as 2028.

Earlier, Breaking Defense reported that the US Navy signed a $25 million contract with Applied Intuition to integrate an artificial intelligence platform known as the Intelligent Perception System (IPS) across naval vessels.

The IPS will combine data feeds from cameras and infrared sensors to construct a unified operational picture for ship crews, integrating sensor streams that were not originally designed to interoperate.
