The Royal Navy of Oman, in coordination with the Maritime Security Centre, has evacuated 25 crew members from a tanker targeted in an attack within the Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az reports that the Omani Ministry of Defense confirmed the operation in an official statement.
“In cooperation with the Maritime Security Centre, the Royal Navy of Oman evacuated 25 crew members from a Panama-flagged merchant vessel after an attack caused a fire to break out onboard,” the statement read.
The incident occurred 10.6 nautical miles (approximately 20 kilometers) off the coast of Oman’s Musandam Governorate. Necessary medical assistance was provided to the rescued mariners.
Earlier, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued an advisory regarding the attack on the outbound tanker. According to UKMTO data, on October 29, a small boat approached the vessel’s port side and attached two explosive charges to the hull. The resulting detonation ignited a fire in the engine room, temporarily disabling the vessel’s propulsion.
