A tanker carrying 40,000 tons of diesel fuel from Russia has set sail for New York.

Sea-news.az reports that the fuel transport is being executed under an agreement reached this month between Moscow and U.S. President Donald Trump. According to Reuters, Donald Trump announced the deal on diesel imports from Russia as part of measures to curb surging diesel prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections on November 3.

The Malta-flagged tanker “Agioi Fanendes” is expected to reach the United States on November 7. This will mark the first shipment of diesel fuel imported by the American side since former President Joe Biden banned imports of Russian oil and petroleum products to the U.S. in 2022. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak noted that following contracts between the parties, additional shipments will follow, and Russia has agreed to lift its ban on diesel exports under this agreement.
