A major milestone has been reached under the Shah Deniz Compression (SDC) project. bp has successfully completed the installation of offshore tubular piles and commenced offshore construction operations for the project.

Sea-news.az reports that over the past few weeks, four tubular piles, which will form the foundation of the SDC platform jacket, were safely transported offshore and installed in position using the Khankendi subsea construction vessel.

Key highlights of the operations note that these piles — each approximately 70 meters long, 108 inches in diameter, and weighing 292 tonnes — represent the largest-diameter tubular piles ever installed by bp in the Caspian Sea. To ensure the stability and verticality of the piles during installation, a specially fabricated 188-tonne subsea support template was utilized. Additionally, pile plug technology was deployed for the first time in bp’s regional operations as part of this campaign.

These operations mark a crucial step forward in the execution of the SDC project, paving the way for the next major milestone scheduled for the first half of 2028 — the installation of the platform jacket.
