Power Engineers Day Celebrated in Azerbaijan

30

Today marks Power Engineers’ Day in Azerbaijan. For twenty-two years, Azerbaijani power engineers have proudly celebrated their professional holiday.

Sea-news.az reports that Power Engineers’ Day is associated with a landmark event of special significance in the life of our country: 45 years ago, on October 20, 1981, the first power unit of the “Azerbaijan” Thermal Power Plant (TPP) was commissioned upon the initiative and under the direct leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, laying the foundation for a new stage in the development of Azerbaijan’s power engineering. The establishment of this date as Power Engineers’ Day by Decree of President Ilham Aliyev on October 13, 2004, stands as another bright chapter in the annals of national power engineering, expressing the high value placed by the country’s leadership on the dedicated labor of professionals in this field.

Throughout all periods of his leadership in Azerbaijan, National Leader Heydar Aliyev paid special attention to the development of the republic’s energy complex, including its power grid, performing invaluable work in this domain. The socio-economic reforms outlined by the National Leader and currently implemented with great success by President Ilham Aliyev are aimed at strengthening and enhancing the power of Azerbaijan. Under the initiative and guidance of the head of state, comprehensive programs across all sectors of the economy, including electric power engineering, have been adopted and realized. In accordance with the Action Plan of the “Strategic Roadmap for the Development of Public Utilities (Electric and Thermal Energy, Water, and Gas) in the Republic of Azerbaijan,” relevant measures are underway to execute short-term and long-term tasks while modernizing the power grid.

The energy policy currently carried out under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev not only logically complements the work accomplished and results achieved in Soviet times and during the years of independence, but also ensures the power system’s evolution in line with modern global trends. Azerbaijan is among the rare nations globally that has succeeded in achieving 100 percent energy security entirely through its own internal potential.
