The proposed Caspian Sea water desalination plant is projected to produce 300,000 cubic meters of drinking water daily, with no impact on consumer water tariffs.

Sea-news.az reports Economy Ministry representative Turkan Vusat stated at the 3rd National Competition Forum that the contract with the consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power was signed last September. The winning company is currently conducting financial negotiations with international banking institutions. Construction will commence upon finalizing the financing arrangements and is expected to take two and a half years. ACWA Power will operate the plant for 25 years following its completion. The water will be supplied to consumers at existing utility rates, with any cost variance subsidized by the state.
