Legislative Amendments Introduce New Environmental Standards in Aquaculture and Agriculture

19

Amendments are being introduced to the laws “On Suspension of Inspections in the Field of Entrepreneurship” and “On Environmental Impact Assessment” (EIA).

Sea-news.az reports the relevant bill was included on the agenda of the Parliament’s session on October 13. The primary objective is to ensure prompt state control over the fisheries sector and transition the EIA requirements in the agricultural domain to clear, quantifiable criteria.

Under the new draft, EIA requirements during the design phase of agricultural facilities will apply to livestock farms with a capacity of 1,000 cattle equivalents, poultry farms with 40,000 chicken equivalents, and aquaculture facilities producing 500 tons annually. Aligned with international standards, EU directives, and FAO guidelines, these regulations aim to relieve administrative burdens on small and medium-sized farms while optimizing control over major agricultural developments.
