Romanian authorities have decided to increase water releases from several reservoirs in the south of the country to raise the water level of the Danube River.

Sea-news.az reports citing the “Antena 3” television channel, the drop in the river’s water level threatens to cause cooling system issues at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant.

On Saturday, the water level of the Danube dropped to 259 centimeters below the conditional zero mark, standing just 3 centimeters above the critical threshold required for the plant’s cooling intake. To elevate the river level, the Izbiceni, Mihăilești, and Iezerul reservoirs will be utilized between October 10 and 18 under the oversight of the National Administration “Romanian Waters” (ANAR).
