More than 100 people, including 15 children, have lost their lives after a boat carrying migrants sank off the coast of Djibouti.
Sea-news.az reports the statement was released by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency.
The vessel traveling from Djibouti to Yemen capsized on the night of October 9. The incident claimed the lives of 109 people—52 men, 42 women, and 15 children. While over 80 survivors were rescued, 116 individuals remain missing.
Tens of thousands of migrants transit through Djibouti to Yemen each year in hopes of reaching Gulf nations. In 2025 alone, over 900 migrants died or went missing along this perilous route.
