The first international cargo airport under construction in the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of April 2027.
Sea-news.az reports that Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of AFEZ, announced this during the German-Azerbaijani Strategic Partnership and Connectivity Conference held in Baku.
According to V. Alasgarov, the airport will have an initial annual cargo capacity of 500,000 tons:
“It will subsequently increase to reach at least 2 million tons per year. The cargo airport within AFEZ will eliminate traditional customs clearance bottlenecks, complex transit logistics, and dual-use bureaucratic regulatory hurdles.”
